We have embarked on a number of sustainability projects to reduce our energy and water usage, increase our use of renewable energy and minimise our waste going to landfill.
We are actively working towards our goal of achieving a 50% reduction in carbon emissions from electricity and gas by 2030.*
We have installed 702 kW of solar panels across our Melbourne manufacturing sites, which generates approximately 1,027,884 kWh of power annually and helps reduce our reliance on the grid. We are also continuing to reduce our overall energy usage by improving processes, and installing newer, more energy-efficient equipment across our sites.
*This relates to Ego’s manufacturing, and is calculated per kilogram of product compared with 2019.
We are committed to always using water responsibly by reducing our overall consumption, and recovering waste water for reuse where possible.
Rain water is collected in our 26 water tanks and is used in non-potable applications such as in toilets and gardens. In production, substantial water savings have been realised by introducing longer production runs which reduces cleaning between batches, as well as steam condensate and waste water recovery, and increased factory efficiency.
We are minimising the waste from our manufacturing processes that goes to landfill, through a focused effort of sorting, reusing and recycling.
E-waste, polystyrene, cardboard, paper, soft plastic and glass is recycled, pallets and cardboard outers are returned to suppliers for re-use, and we are continuing to audit and look at ways that we can further reduce our waste.
