1. Eat right

A good balanced diet with inclusion of the “good fats”. These omega-3-fatty acids help your skin look healthier. Foods highest in these good fats include seafood (especially tuna and salmon) as well as walnuts, canola oil, and flax seed.

2. Drink right

Keep hydrated with water during the day. This is easier said than done with our often busy lifestyles but keeping up with fluid intake is essential for skin health.

3. Use quality skincare

Incorporate some good quality skincare into your daily routine. This does not necessarily mean expensive products. Remember that the simple things are often the best! Things that I look for in skin care include moisturising day creams with SPF 50+, with both UVA and UVB cover and alpha hydroxy acids, commonly known as AHAs. AHAs are not only great for skin renewal but also are a good option for those prone to breakouts as a result of using thick or occlusive moisturisers.

4. Use the right skincare for your skin, depending on the season

Keep up with the seasons and adjust your skincare regime accordingly. What works for you in winter does not always translate to summer.

5. Don't be afraid to get some extra help from your dermatologist or skincare professional
