The journey of getting a skincare product onto shelves can be a long and complex process, sometimes with many challenges and unexpected twists. The entire process requires careful planning, coordinated execution, and strict adherence to regulations to ensure a safe, high-quality and effective product. At Ego Pharmaceuticals, we use science to transform innovative ideas into beneficial skincare products – helping people maintain healthy skin, or manage skin conditions, such as those with dry and sensitive skin. Here’s a closer look at the key stages of getting an Ego skincare product from the lab to the production line and finally to shelf.

1. Idea and concept development

Every Ego skincare product begins with an idea. At Ego’s cross-team meetings we discuss ideas, concepts and goals to define each product’s key attributes. Often this can address current trends, popular and trusted ingredients, scientific breakthroughs, customer preferences, and competitive landscapes. It is important to ensure that each product fits our brand and appeals to the needs of our customers. This information guides Ego to develop a skincare product that stands out in the market but at the same time aligns with Ego’s brand vision and purpose – to transform lives through the science of healthy skin.

2. Product formulation, testing and regulations

Turning an idea into a real skincare product usually involves a few rounds of formulation and re-formulation, and fine-tuning of the product with rigorous testing to meet the appropriate specifications. Backed by years of expertise, Ego’s experienced team applies proven knowledge to develop skincare products that meet the highest standards. Whether you’re looking for a skin-friendly gentle cleanser, moisturising lotion or cream for face and body, antibacterial hand sanitiser, protective lip balm, or baby conditioner and shampoo, we’ve the expertise to deliver. Our robust testing protocols and quality control measures ensure our products meet the highest standards before moving to the manufacturing stage.

3. Product manufacturing and packaging

All our products, cosmetic and therapeutic, are made at Ego’s Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)-registered facility in Melbourne, Australia. With the formulation perfected, the next step is manufacturing and packaging. Ego’s advanced dispensing, blending and filling capabilities ensure consistency and quality in every batch that we make, thus meeting strict regulatory standards and guaranteeing consistent production of high-quality products at all times. Products come in a wide range of sizes, from as small as 10g up to 1.25L, and packaging formats including tubes, bottles, or jars, to deliver the required amount.

4. Marketing, distribution and delivery to customers

A successful marketing and selling campaign, following a product launch, is the peak of careful planning and flawless execution. This reinforces brand consistency, builds trust with our customers, and increases the likelihood of long-term customer loyalty. Additionally, understanding our customers' expectations allows us to craft compelling messaging and deliver targeted experiences that drive deeper engagement. Our supply chain, logistics and distribution teams ensure Ego’s products are delivered efficiently to our customers including Pharmacies, Hospitals, Aged-Care Facilities, and end-consumers in Australia and across the globe, no matter when or where the product is being launched.

Ego has established a clear science and innovation plan that utilises the collective expertise of every single individual and team across the business. Collaboration drives and speeds up innovation, while maintaining the highest standards of scientific integrity, compliance, and a commitment to excellence, ensuring product safety, quality and effectiveness. By doing this, we create a continuous feedback loop where scientific discovery informs regulatory strategy, quality manufacturing standards validate innovation, packaging delivers the promise, and communications translate benefits into meaningful user value. From an initial idea to final presentation, everyone at Ego plays an important part in making sure our products look as good as they perform on shelf in stores and in homes.
