- Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis) is most common in young, adult men and has various patterns.
- Skin on the sole and sides of the foot can look moccasin-like and is dry and scaling. Due to warmth and moisture, the skin between the toes is soft, can peel off easily, and fissures are often present. The affected skin is often irritable, and it may smell unpleasant.
- Although generally mild, very inflamed athlete’s foot can be due to secondary bacterial infection.
