Noticed this 'Junior' formulation in the local pharmacy yesterday and was interested to know whether this was a replacement for the 'Kids' formulation, which we bought last year after being disappointed to find that Toddler Milk had been discontinued. Unfortunately we gave up on the Kids sunscreen after one application, as both my daughter and wife came out in red rashes that effectively burnt their skin. Since then we moved onto another brand. This reaction seems to be quite common when reading through reviews of the 'replacement' products, where many like us have had a great experience with the Toddler Milk and then through loyalty to the brand have essentially been coerced into using an inferior product. I don't think it's good enough for Ego to respond as they have in simply saying that some people are allergic to some ingredients. Clearly there has been a significant change to the formulation which caused a number of people, a number seemingly having not had skin sensitivities before (us included) to move away from the brand. Perhaps the revised ingredients have not been properly researched or tested. Whatever it is, it's disappointing that we cannot continue to use this Australian product. Surely there have been enough complaints to warrant a change. I was hoping the new 'Junior' product might be this change. I'm reluctant to give it a try without knowing whether the product is essentially the same or not.

Thank you for contacting Ego Pharmaceuticals regarding your wife and daughter's experience with SunSense Kids.

As with all Ego products, we undertake extensive research to ensure each ingredient is the most suitable of its kind for use on sensitive skin. All SunSense sunscreens are registered as therapeutic goods with the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration), the governing regulatory body for medicines in Australia, and all ingredients have been thoroughly researched and approved for their safety and efficacy.

With the introduction of any new product we would expect a spike in the incidence of sensitivity reaction reports, especially amongst a population who have used SunSense Toddler Milk due to not being able to tolerate other sunscreens.

SunSense Kids was tested on young children between the ages of 6 to 36 months and monitored by a paediatrician without any adverse effects being noted. Testing on human subjects requires that a study to be well designed and appropriately reviewed by established ethics committees. While the test results for SunSense Kids do not guarantee that the product will be suitable for everyone, they are indicative that the product is suitable for sensitive skin and does not pose an unacceptable risk.

If you would like to contact our Customer Service team on 1800 033 706 or CustomerService@egopharm.com, we would like to follow up with your about your wife and daughter's reaction and would be happy to send you a sample of the new SunSense Junior to try.

I purchased this product thinking it was just a 'repackaging of the Toddler Milk. However, it gave my son and I a reaction. While I am allergic to most suncrwams, I Gav never had an allergy to SunSensense, and my son has never had an allergy. Disappointing reformulation.

    Hi Bronwyn,

We are sorry to learn of your experience.

As with all Ego products, we undertake extensive research to ensure each ingredient is the most suitable of its kind for use on sensitive skin. This of course cannot guarantee that everyone’s skin will find it suitable and it is possible that an individual may develop sensitivity to any ingredient at any time.

The symptoms you experienced while using SunSense Junior sunscreen could be the result of a possible sensitivity to certain ingredients included in this product, and we would like to follow up with you concerning your experience.

We would ask that you please take the time to contact our Customer Service team on 1800 033 706 or at customerservice@egopharm.com so that we may further assist you.

The Sunsense Toddler Milk was the only sunscreen I had tried that my daughter didn't react to. The new Junior formula has also caused her to get a severe rash on her face and has caused eczema flare ups on the rest of her body. Even my son, who is younger and doesn't generally have sensitive skin has reacted to the new Junior formula as well. Back to trial and error with other brands - would love to see the return of the Toddler Milk formula!!!
