Burns (Minor), Cuts, Abrasions
Minor burns are those that damage the epidermis only. The symptoms are painful erythema and possibly swelling. In a few days, scaling may occur. Healing usually takes 1 week and there is no scarring.
Cuts and Abrasions
Cuts and abrasions result from many causes. The damaged skin is susceptible to infection.
In all of the conditions listed above, the main aim of treatment is to relieve the pain and ensure the patient is comfortable. It is also important to try to prevent infection in compromised skin. Burns should immediately be cooled with cool water. Cuts and abrasions should be cleaned prior to treatment.
Advice for the Patient
The patient should be advised not to scratch itching or healing conditions to reduce the risk of secondary infection.
