We all know the feeling a warm bath offers. Once in the bath the feeling of the day’s stress, all the cares of the world, it all seems to drift away as you get transported to a state of bliss.
Historically, baths have been around for many centuries and in many different cultures. As far back as the Indus Valley Civilisation, the Greeks, the Romans, the Japanese, even the Ottoman Empire all had forms of public baths that catered to sometimes, religious pursuits, but mostly as a form of relaxation and socialisation. While the idea of public baths never took a hold here, the very nature of a bath – sitting in a pool of warm water, still serves to relax our muscles and calm the mind. The physical benefits of a warm bath can be seen as a process of rejuvenation. A warm bath helps with circulation; it loosens muscles and releases tensions; and by adding a quality bath oil like QV Bath Oil, it will also have moisturising benefits for the skin. The psychological benefits from the time to relax and unwind are numerous. Whether it’s complete silence, some music, or a good book or magazine while relaxing in the bath can take your mind off financial and emotional worries and help give you a clearer head when you need to address these problems at a later time.
For a baby, the bath also offers a lot more than just the benefits of a basic clean up and a few (ok maybe more than a few) photo ops. Bath time boosts the mother and baby bond, and it’s not hard to see why bath time quickly becomes a highlight of the day, for mom and baby – it’s time spent together. Bath time is a great soother for fussy babies as well as being a great sleep inducer. If you add a bath to your baby’s bedtime routine, the warm water, the warm room, and the all round feeling of warmth will help put baby in the mood to snooze. The nightly routine will help set your baby’s body clock (Mommy is giving me a bath it must be almost time for bed).
So what are you waiting for? Isn’t it time you treated yourself and your baby to a warm bath.
