Sunday Mail City to Bay

Celebrating its 45th year anniversary, the Sunday Mail City to Bay is an annual fundraising event, held in Adelaide, South Australia. Although the original cause of the event is to support athletes and athletic clubs within the community of South Australia, many other charities now use the fun run as a platform for fundraising activities.

Back in 1973, the event started off with just 1,600 runners who each paid just 50c to enter the run. This year, more than 26,000 people took part in the event for a three, six or twelve-kilometer run or walk between Adelaide CBD and Glenelg, raising more than $300,000.

Australian Melanoma Research Foundation was one of the supporters of the event. Their volunteers, also known as the Melanoma Messengers, mingled amongst participants and spectators at the event, providing free SunSense sunscreen for use on the day.

With the warm weather, at 24 degrees, the participants greatly appreciated the provision of sunscreen to help protect them from the sun. “I was standing to one side, holding up the sunscreen and people were coming in droves with their hands out,” one of the Melanoma Messengers, Jodie commented.

CanTeen, a non-profit organisation that helps young people cope with cancer, was another charity participant in this event. With goodie bags as an incentive for the first 250 fundraisers whoraised over $50, CanTeenmanaged to raise over $70,000 through this event, a record amount for the group. Ego Pharmaceuticals were proud to have contributed samples from the SunSense range to be included in the goodie bags.

The money raised will be used to fund programs, recreation days, counseling and other support for young South Australians who are experiencing the impact of cancer on their lives, either through a close family member’s diagnosis or their own.

Overall, the annual event was a success and Ego Pharmaceuticals were elated to be part of this meaningful occasion.
