Skin IQ (45 of 60) – What are AHAs?

October 20, 2011

Alpha hydroxy acids, or AHAs, are used in some cosmetic products.  Also called fruit acids, they are derived from fruit and milk sugars and can also be synthetically made.  Common types of AHAs include glycolic acid and lactic acid.

AHAs are included in products to help remove the outer layer of dead skin and are often seen in anti-ageing products.  The AHAs help loosen the glue like substances that hold dead skin cells together allowing them to shed 1.
