Skin IQ (42 of 60) – What are These New Ingredients You’ve Never Heard of, such as Helioplex or Feverfew?

October 23, 2011

Some skin care products have ingredients that you haven’t heard of before.  These are typically promoted on the front of the pack, or in advertising. These are also called ‘Trademark ingredients’.  The may be called, ‘new’ or ‘revolutionary’.

The ingredient name is something the manufacturer has used to describe a combination of ingredients or is simply another name for an ingredient.  For cosmetic products each ingredient contained has to be listed on the ingredients list at the back.

For example the ingredient Feverfew is actually tanacetum parthenium, a flowering plant, and Helioplex contains a combination of existing active ingredients used in sunscreens.
