SunSense Choice TestingDecember 14, 2015
Ego Pharmaceuticals is reassuring customers that its SPF claims are accurate after recent SPF testing, undertaken by Choice Australia, reported that SunSense Sport SPF 50+ sunscreen was one of a number of sunscreens that did not deliver its stated label SPF.
The abnormal results are inconsistent with the official SPF certification of SunSense Sport SPF 50+ that is held in support of its listing with the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).
Scientific Affairs Manager at Ego Pharmaceuticals, Dr Kerryn Greive (PhD) says the Australian owned company has an extensive quality assurance process and stands by their SPF claims.
“SunSense Sport SPF 50+ has the certification to support that the product meets its SPF 50+ protection claim. Our consumers have no reason to be concerned by these abnormal results” said Dr Greive.
“To assure our customers that Ego produce products to a very high standard that will consistently protect their skin, every SunSense product is tested for quality at our laboratories in Braeside, Melbourne and SunSense sunscreens are subject to regular and on-going stability testing to ensure quality and consistency.
“Australia has one of the highest incidences of skin cancer in the world and it’s important that Australian’s aren’t discouraged from using sunscreen to protect against UV damage” added Dr Greive.
In Australia sunscreens are regulated as therapeutic products and are required to meet the Australian and New Zealand standard for sunscreen products. All SunSense products sold in Australia are made and tested according to TGA requirements.
“Our manufacturing facility in Australia is licensed by the Therapeutic Goods Administration with all of our sunscreen manufacturing methods fully validated in compliance with the requirements of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). This ensures the quality and reproducibility of our processes” said Dr Greive.
