The son of Gerald and Rae Oppenheim, who founded what is now Australia's largest family-owned pharmaceutical business in 1953 after developing Pinetarsol from their family home, Alan knows Ego inside out, having worked in all areas of the business beginning when he was in high school where he worked after hours in the dispatch, receiving and moving barrels of various ingredients well before the arrival of any forklifts.
After officially joining Ego in 1981, Alan undertook the task of automating the company's factory stock and manufacturing systems. He then turned his attention to significantly improving quality systems in the production processes, the quality control testing processes and in the science behind all marketing material.
As Managing Director, Alan is constantly seeking new ways to improve and maintain the company's reputation for leading the way in innovative products for skin treatment and healthy skin maintenance.
Under Alan's leadership, some of Ego Pharmaceuticals' achievements include:
- • the development of SunSense, a world first in improved sun protection and customer acceptability; extending the iconic Pinetarsol range with Pinetarsol Gel and Pinetarsol Bar;
- • the creation of DermAid (another world-first in terms of improved formulation of hydrocortisone cream);
- • the development of market-leading QV, in response to a request from the dermatology department of the Queen Victoria Hospital to create a product for their service line.
Alan's passion for Ego, its industry, and the science that inspires and supports it, has led to numerous accolades and industry recognition. A life Member of the Australian Dermatology Nurses Association, Alan was President of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Scientists (IFSCC) representing 14,000 scientists in 35 nations. The business has also established fellowships for dermatologists and dermatology nurses in Australia and internationally.
Under Alan's management, Ego has also been awarded a slate of accolades including the Australian Export Hero (2010), Excellence in Sales and Services, BRW/ANZ Private Business Award for overseas trading (2010), Governor of Victoria Export Awards (2006 & 2009), Australian Self Medication Industry (2008 & 2009) but to name a few.

To celebrate his years of service to Ego in the UAE, we introduce you to Azzam Alwani.
Azzam has worked with Ego for 12 years as the Middle East Regional Manager. He is based in Dubai within the UAE. Prior to joining Ego Azzam worked with our skin care range via a distributor company for Ego products and in his 22 years of experience with Ego has seen a number of significant changes within Ego and across the region. Over Azzam's history with Ego there has been a huge growth in the number of products produced and he has watched several Ego products rocket to number 1 category position in the Middle Eastern markets.
He has also visited the Australian plant on numerous occasions and has seen the development of the research and development facility, the increase in production capacity and the expansion of warehousing that has been required to meet the demand in the Middle East markets.Azzam's advice to someone considering a position in the company is that,
"Ego is the right work place for you if you are a creative person who believes in change."

Dr. Fabrizio Spada is the Research and Development Manager at Ego Pharmaceuticals. With varying experience across scientific research, Dr Spada has had his studies published, his work awarded patents, and at one point even helped to produce materials that contributed to NASA. His work has taken him all over the world, from Italy to the US and now to Australia to develop new, innovative formulations for skin care products with Ego.
Dr. Spada's passion for chemistry and science-based skin care drives his work here at Ego. His responsibilities focus on the development of new cosmetic and therapeutic dermatological products and he makes sure that all formulations are compliant with the current Australian and International laws so that Ego products can be sold both nationally and globally. His experience with formulation and bringing ideas and concepts into reality has been invaluable to the products that Ego develops.
A firm believer in science and using only evidence-based technologies that have shown results, Dr. Spada's values align with Ego's perfectly. When asked what he was most excited about working on for Ego, Dr. Spada replied that he's "looking forward to finding the next generation of technologies and solutions for skin conditions that can be supported by solid science."

Dr. Mandeep Singh is the Occupational Health and Safety Officer at Ego Pharmaceuticals. She has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and a PhD in Chemistry at Monash University.
Mandeep commenced her journey at Ego in January 2015 as a Quality Control Chemist within the Scientific Team. As an experienced chemist with strong analytical and problem-solving skills she was keen to pursue a career within the pharmaceutical industry that allowed her to make the best use of her skills. p>
A perfect opportunity came up in 2017 for the role of OHS Officer within the Operations team and she has enjoyed working in this space since.
Mandeep says that she enjoys working in health and safety as she recognizes how important it is to the people of Ego. It is her opportunity to help others whilst gaining a deep understanding of the many complex processes of the business.
Mandeep is passionate about safety and recognizes that keeping people safe is a crucial part of business today and that caring for others is a core part of the company values. p>
In her short time in this role, she has already made a significant contribution to most teams at Ego.
Mandeep is also a member of the Safety Institute of Australia and is working towards professional certification.
